Google Analytics for custom domains

You can now collect data about your visitors by connecting Google Analytics to your channel. All you need is your Tracking ID and Teletype will take care of the rest, by tracking and sending information to Google Analytics.

How to set up Google Analytics

  • First, read how to Find your tracking ID in Google Help.
  • Once you have it, open your Teletype Settings and paste the Tracking ID under the Domain tab.

Please note that Google Analytics feature is only available if you are using a custom domain for your channel. It is also the only analytics tool that we support at the moment.

Custom Domain Mapping to Teletype

Teletype allows you to set domains to all blogs where you are an administrator. If you do not have a domain, then you can buy it through our partner registrar

Step 1: Configure DNS Domain Records

Teletype should understand which domain you want to set to journal, so you need to add a DNS record in the domain settings, either A-Record or CNAME — depending on the domain level.

  • — for subdomains update your CNAME record to (recommended)
  • — to use a second-level domain, you need to set its A-record to

Save the changes. It may take up to 72 hours for the changes to take effect (but usually it's fast).

Step 2. Set Domain to Your Journal

  1. Log in to your journal.
  2. Open the settings.
  3. Find the 'Custom Domain Name' option and type your domain in the enter your domain field.
  4. Click Map Now.
  5. Done.

If something goes wrong, the system will tell you what to do.
